Red carpet metamorphosis: Rooney Mara
Starting as a fresh faced New York University psychology and international social policy graduate, Rooney Mara's first red carpet appearance was in the 2009 Sundance Film Festival for the screening of "Dare." Her colors of choice for film premieres have consistently been nude and soft peaches, highlighting a subtle and pretty elegance to her sweet girl charm. Mara has also starred in "Nightmare on Elm Street" and as Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend we saw in the beginning of "The Social Network."
Then, Mara chopped off her gorgeous mane and dyed her hair black, signaling the dramatic transformation into Lisbeth Salander. As the lead character sporting piercings, ink, and nudity in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," it is clear that Mara has grown up from her roles as a precious supporting actress. Dripping with Lanvin, covering issues of Vogue, and photographed by Mert and Marcus, Mara now breathes black sophistication.
With such a daring change, we can only wonder if Mara's sense of style has truly evolved or if the character of Salander has influenced her taste. Perhaps it is a combination of both. No matter the case, pretty or bold, I'm sure we can expect a lot from her in the upcoming Oscars.
